Ravens Mini-Camp kicks off April 5th

The F.C. Ravens season officially kicks off next week. Tuesday April 5th our conditioning practice starts at B.A.D. 33 Hull Street Shelton, CT from 7-8:30pm. It is a one time fee of $20. The $20 covers the 4 weeks we will be there.

We had over 35 interested players at our last meeting and we are looking to double this number this weekend. Come down and be apart of something outstanding. Week 2 Recap vs. Tri-County Fighting Sprites

During Week 2 The Sprites came prepared and on the opening drive scored the first points of the game. Ravens D were doing the best eventually holding them inside their own 20 which lead to a punt. Roland Whitley lined up deep to return the ball. Knowing the Ravens needed a score Whtley took the punt 43 yds to the house for a Ravens TD. The Ravens Special teams and Defense played outstanding while the offense was slow to start. The utilized wide out Josh Huff which some plays later resulted in the endzone with a 25 yd catch which put "Norwalk" in position to for the 2 points. The Ravens went in ending the first half with the lead14-6.
As the second Half started Qb Jamal Vines took control of the offense were the Ravens would eventually score at will. Jamal Vines scored a red zone TD along with Rashad Lee.Sharing some of that Qb action was Scott McDonald who found Wr wayne allen with a 60 yd bomb. Vic Parsely got the 2 points after the score. Offense would not take all of the spotlight putting up points as Cb Tasheem Carney came off with spectacular interception which the Sprites could avoid. Carney took the interception 74 yards down the sideline for another Ravens Touchdown.

Week 1 Recap vs. Cape Cod Crusaders

As the Ravens entered the first quarter Lead by Qb scott mcdonald it took little time for him to find Vic Parsely with a 70 yds bomb to open the Ravens season right. The Ravens Specials stepped up and unleashed punishing blows which allowed Veteran/All*Star Rb Justin "Juice"Bledsoe to pick up the fumble and run it 30 yds for another Ravens 6. The Crusaders would retaliate by taking a kick return for 97 yds touchdown. The Ravens went in to halftime with a 14-6 lead.
The Ravens coaching staff was upset with the big play knowing that if it continued it could be a dog fight. The captains took control in the second half during warm up and let the pit bulls loose from their cages. Returning for the Ravens fresh from the NY tournament Veteran Linebacker Derrick Stevens showed style by picking off the Crusaders Qb and taking it to the house for a 50 yds td.Special teams set the offense up for the rest of the game. Hushun"norwalk" Rashed took off for two long runs one was 70 yds and the other was 60 yds totaling 130 yards on returns alone. Tight end Morris Whyte also hustled and was able to make and turn it into 30 yd touchdown. Also fresh off the Spring team Rich Tracy got the two points.

This post comes with great delay. As we sit here and look back upon the 2010 season we ask how did we measure up? As The first Round of the Playoffs was under way against the Brooklyn Blue Devils many pregame questions arose but one was dominant over all...."Where the hell was everyone at?" As the Blue Devils took the field for pregame warm up Ravens had about 12 players total. While the answer to the question remains a mystery the fact still remains that those that were committed as they had been from day one were there to put in work.

While the Blue Devils came with a numbers to tactic to intimidate for those that were there that was the least of our concern. We didn't make excuses we made a game plan and an attempt to execute. Defense took the field first. Initially amist the chaos of filling people in to where they could play not based on where they normally play Raven's were holding the fort down as the Devils quickly could not convert and was 4th and 10. Field position determined their next move. They could have kicked and pinned to the goal or fire away and thats what they did. A miscommunication in the secondary left Devil widereceiver uncovered and available for score.

This would essentially be how most of the game was. It started 6-0 and the Raven's took the field moving the ball with different options. Unfortunately no drive would ever lead to the score. The ball would move but never enough to draw blood. Defense would return and be threatened by the Devils again in which their second drive exposed the secondary yet again and the Ravens were vulnerable. Devils convert the 2 point conversion.

The Raven's did not hand over the victory and fought with the arsenal of warriors that came to battle. Joe Britto lead the offense while Justin "Juice" Bledsoe showed the heart and determination to fight his way through asthmatic issues and play 4 quarters of any position he could play to change the outcome. Jon Lavigne snagged 2 interceptions off the Blue devils one which came within the 20 when the defense had their back against the goal line. The offensive line also divided the responsibility and rotated to defense best they could.

The Ravens would hold the Devils to one more score leaving the game 20-0 in Brooklyn.

If there is a lesson to learn in all this is that I will take 11 guys to any game with the desire, will and determination to take on 50 guys than to have those 50 guys on my team who may be absent in the face of adversity.

Ravens come up Short But Set their Sights on the playoffs!

May 2nd appeared to be one of the most haziest game days in the tournament. Both teams took the field and a battle ensued. Ravens won the toss and differed bringing out the defense right away. Demon knight offense came out with some run foundations but soon turned the ball over on downs. Ravens playing with yet another Qb attempted to bring out the run game first. After a few runs here and a couple of chain resets the Ravens would not reach the end zone giving the Demon knights an opportunity to score. The Demon knights scored first with a long ball making it 7-0.
Ravens agressively moved the ball down the field behind full back Tyson and the stampede of Juice Bledsoe. Sean Bell also contributed to the run which lead to Ravens score.7-6 at the half. Both teams defense were holding down the fort. This game would be based on that. Eventually the Demon knights scored again 14-6. Demon knights held the Ravens offense from getting off a few pass plays that could have changed the game around.

Ravens Defeat Punishers 12-6 Week 4

Its Sat April 24th,2010. The Schedule shows Ravens Vs. Punishers 5pm kickoff. The Raven's never beat the Punisher's so the heat was already on. Coach Todd Kennedy could only have that on his mind since you've got to look at the history both teams have. A 3rd year Ravens team was much more mature with a heavy arsenal at many positions. Would that be sufficient enough to beat the Punishers?

The Ravens answered fast with Viper vet Qb Joe Britto leading the Ravens offense. While it was his first game with a Raven's uniform Britto had been part of the team since day one. Part of the Rhode Island Road Warriors aka them All around Boyz, Britto had no problem connecting to Steve Cirelli who has been hot comoing off a break out game against the Bulldawgs. Cirelli is perhaps one of the most underestimated receivers. Britto Connected early with Cirelli on a long bomb upfield.This help put the Ravens up right away 6-0. The Ravens were unable to convert for the 2 but went right to work on defense.

The Punishers came out strong with some elusive running backs. Setting up a couple of diferent backfield sets 15 and 31 for the Punishers to help move the chains. The Ravens Defense would not budge which quickly lead to a back and forth game through the second quarter. Punishers were holding there own as well forcing the Ravens to punt after a few short runs. Towards the end of the second quarter Cirelli was back on the scene. The Britto-Cirelli connection came up big one more time! Cirelli made a dash and forced multiple tacklers to miss and resulted in another Raven score. 12-0 Ravens.

The Punishers would come back the second half to mount an attack on the Ravens. As the defense would come back to try to win this game the Punishers pushed and converted multiple times on 4th and short. One play resulted in big run. This put the Ravens in a threat and resulted in a score 12-6. 4thQuarter and the Punishers were turning on the Heat. Ravens staggered and could not convert to keep the Offense out and the Defense off the field. The Ravens O line played a solid game and only gave up one sack. Power running from Sean Bell and Juice Bledsoe helped move the chains with power blocking from Semi-Pro vet Fullback Keith Welsch. Unfortunately the Ravens could not convert and gave the Punishers one more chance. Punishers qb connected with the tight end 87 for a post which brought them inside the 20. #15 was given draws and sweeps along side 31. Ravens Dbacks had kept the Punisher receivers occupied so there were was no where to throw. Linebackers L train, Galich, Wells and Rivera also kept the runningbacks busy. With 1:00 on the clock 4th and 1 for a new set of downs or 5 for a score which could send the Ravens home with their second loss of the season and jeopardize their playoff situation. Wayne Warsaw and Will Czevekus were a handful for the Punishers line but enough push on the line gave Rivera a chance to rush through and force the Punishers to spit the ball up inside the 5. Defense recovers and Offense steps on the field to close out the show.....12-6 Ravens (3-1)

Next game vs Demon Knights May 2nd Noon at the Bronx stay tuned.

This is for next game-Feel some way about it. Play with wreck-less abandon leave it all on the field.

What is commitment?
Some say its doing something and seeing it all the way through. Failure to do so would be considered quitting. Its means something different to me. Its looking amongst teammates and knowing the adversity you had to overcome to get here to play for pride for 2 1/2 hours any given day.. Its driving four hours from Rhode Island or coming From L.I . Its not having a ride but someone stepping up to car pool and take that responsibility for them. Its putting the teams needs before your own because in the end it benefits everyone not just you. Its dropping matters of the heart to step on the 50 with 11 guys on each side of the ball knowing that your going to battle and maybe a few weeks ago you would have never spoken to this person on the street but today your proud to call them your teammate. Its seeing a Dr. Cuz you know your hurt but you can't let your team down so you step on that field taking a risk for one another. Its playing through pain and sickness as if it doesn't exist. Its leaving it all on the field when you're done.

Ravens Vs. Brooklyn Bulldawgs

This game was an epic display of Gridiron Guts from both teams. The Ravens came out on Defense first hoping to make a statement right out the gates. The Ravens were not the only ones with that idea in mind. The Bulldawgs came out firing with a Run and Shoot style offense powered by an all star classic RB who plays QB too.

A few runs and some pass plays later lead to a 6-0 score in the first quarter. Would the Ravens repeat a dismal performance against the Bulldawgs? Only the offense could determine that. Defense for the Ravens had been playing solid during the tournament but their had been some issues at filling the Qb slot. Garrett Kendziera #12 a Western Mass Warrior joined the offense alongside talents of fb Ron Tyson, Justin"juice" Bledsoe and receivers such as Morris, steve cirelli and Tony Lingard. A conservative offense did not prove much to a Hungry Dog pound from the Bulldawgs who came firing off the ends.

Defense would be determined to go back and hold the Bulldawgs. Adjustments were being made but it seemed although personal changed the situation didn't leading to another Bulldawg score.
Garrett Kendziera and Cirelli got hot before the half ended connecting multiple times and Leading to a the Ravens first score.

12-6 Bulldawgs to end the Half.
Ravens Receive the second half.

Coach Jay Davis opened up the play book and fired away. It was going to take a solid offensive run to put the Ravens closer. Juice ran between the tackles with blocking from 44 Tyson.
Unfortunately it would lead to a punt.
After giving the Bulldawgs Qb hell. The Bulldawgs would turn the ball over on downs and Garret would come gunning with the Bledsoe. Bledsoe established his dominance and made a dash for 6.
12-12 Tie game 1:00 min left
Ravens failed to convert and the Bulldawgs got a chance to mount a come back and stop the Ravens.
Defense Defense Fellas!
Bulldawgs had a tight passing game the whole game but when it was down to the wire they couldn't convert.

New comer E Banks said "put me in pick a spot I'll play it". While the Ravens already have a gruesome front 5 in the Trenches with Eric Gifford, Wayne Warsaw , Will Czevekus and Scott Andruk and Adam Dixon speed would make the diference. The Bulldawgs had it and the Ravens pulled it from their sidelines with E banks. He was laying hats on people and flying to the ball.

Eventually the Ravens would have to rally one more time around their offense. It would take a team effort to walk out as Victors. in overtime the Ravens received the ball first on the 25 and what seemed to be 3 and far became 1st and goal with Garret evading Tacklers.

A late hit on that play would bring the Ravens closer for the Kill. "Juice" would get the ball one more time and with blocking from the front five and a determined fullback Juice bounced out of a closing hole and made his own path to the endzone!

Subbing Qb Al will would punch in the two pt conversion off a bached play to help seal the victory.

Defense-Defense!
One more time. 4 plays close out the show. Ravens!
And they did. Will, Banks and Gifford would prove too much with Blitzes from Court "HD"Southerland who was harrassing the Qb the whole game . Two plays down off incomplete passes and the qb is still scrambling. 3 and still to go. Bulldawgs need a score to keep ot alive. Their third attempt was disrupted as a tackle in the back field. Was made. 4th and the game. Qb #3 had one last chance to atleast get a first. Pressure ensuing a pass down the field which was Denied by Jamar Rawles, Joe"Ghost"Burns and John "L Train" Lavigne. What looked to be interception was an incomplete pass game over Ravens win it 20-12 in Overtime.

Great game Ravens and Bulldawgs. Best wishes to #1 speedy recovery we'll love the game but have respect for those who play it!

Penalties Plague the Ravens

With much anticipation going into the game both teams were fired up. Pre-game chants from both sidelines were done like war cries before a big battle. Two teams enter but only one could leave the Victor. Would the Spartans redeem this lost from last year and show why they still are Championship contenders or would they fall to the Ravens again? The opening play could not be predicted as off the snap came the first turnover of the game by 33 Mike Galich. Galich stepped back in the secondary and jumped the pass to get the Ravens the ball early.

The Ravens would go 3 and out and the Defense would have to stop the Spartans who were uneffected by the Interception. The Spartans return with a sweep only to spit up the ball on a tackle by Ricky Rivera and then recovered by Tim Asbell. This would set up another oppurtunity for the Ravens. 0-0 still in the first quarter but the offense could not change count or move the ball in succession. The Spartans were having a blitz fest. The Spartans stopped the Ravens and would move the ball on penalties which would end up scoring . Broken play calls and more penalties on Defense would lead to 14-0 run.

Matters would only turn worse as the half was closing. Penalties for neutral zone infractions and face masks with the addition of two good passes from the Spartans allowing them to score on the 1 with less than 30 seconds left of the half.

This was it! The second half only meant that the Ravens would have to move forward and put the first half behind them. Few sideline distractions and frustration would hold the Ravens back but would not put them out. The offense still had trouble putting plays successfully together without being attacked by the Spartans D. The Ravens D stepped up with several big play stops from St. V Padilla. Shawn Belle with blocking from Courtney Southerland and the Big line up front allowed the Ravens to move the ball and make the Spartans play honest D. Unfortunately it was too late and unable to put points on the Board this game and lost 20-0.

Ravens vs. Spartans April 11th, 2010 Preiview

There is a lot of hype going into this game whether you may be aware of it or not. Last season in the Gridiron Elite a Sophomore Ct Ravens opened its season against the New York Spartans. Just as we did this season we opened up with a victory. The Spartans fought in this match but our defense proved too much. They could have hung their head and let it dictate the rest of the season negatively. The loss did dictate their season, hurt them but motivated them at the same time. Their goal was to see a Ravens team in the playoff and eliminate us. Unfortunately the cinderalla season wasn't ours it was theirs. Their playoff road wasn't easy but they had two focuses one on the crown and the other on avenging that loss by beating us. We made it to the playoffs and I remember them standing at their sideline hoping that we beat the demon knights and face us for the Grand Finally. If your still reading this you should know that as a returning Raven I don't intend to take a loss from them now more than ever since they are the defending champs. I heard chirps not slander about us at the All-Star game so they are looking forward to this game as much as we are. This team has heart and is going to challenge us but its our job to rise to the occassion and prove ourselves one week at a time. I challenge every Raven on the team look in the mirror and ask themselves "How bad do I want this?" And if you want this as bad as I do show up Sunday with your game face don't yap about what you done, could've done or going to do but make a play one play at time.

All*Star Classic Recap

The All Star game was a smash. It was full of talented players from the Gridiron league and players from other leagues. It was full of legends and also up and coming talent! We can't take credit for all of the players on the all star classic being from the Ravens alone but are currently playing with us this 2010 season and we would just like to show them a home. Some Ravens were invited last minute such as Scott Andruk, Joe Burns, Mike Galich and Ricky Rivera. The list of amazing players goes on and some can be seen above. We were suprised to find out at the game we would essentially be playing against eachother but respect is given and all players represented the Ravens and their respective Fall Team.

The game was close from the first whistle to the last. A nail biter made of big plays one down at a time. Team Rush in White Team Fury in Blue. Fury's QB threw ran and eventually hurdled his way into the endzone in a contravercial touchdown that had the announcer questioning if he was in. The 2nd quarter only had one score. Defense was the name of this game and neither team let up. The half ended 7-0 as should be in an all star game. The second half was explosive Rush moved the ball alternating Qb's between Oberg and #1 until Oberg was hurt and Rush's defense had to step up and Qb #1 had to own the offense.

This eventually lead to a score and a 2 point conversion on behalf of the Rush. Probably what was most suprising was that it wasn't a high scoring game lacking D. The Fury wouldn't give up but let up another score making the game 14-7 after a missed 2pt conversion. Would it cost the Rush no one knew. As Fury mounted the attack and scored Jamar Rawles changed the outcome of the game after the Fury could not pull off the qb keeper to convert for 2 and walk out with a win 15-14. On a goal line stance Fury Qb had a O-line at FB but did not give to the tail back up the middle instead rolled out. From the sideline it seemed a done deal and with little time on the clock Fury would win. Jamar Rawles playing CB made his way around with a loud smack on the QB keeping him out of the EndZone.

Ravens will be participating in the All-Star Gridiron Tournament for 2010. We also have Raven Affiliates that will also be playing and we would like to show them some love. Ravens Vs Panthers 32-20

While the weather just started to warm up so did the Ct Ravens against the Long Island Panthers. This report will be brief since we do not have all the stats yet and will detail them as we receive them. There were some awesome highlights from both teams from first whistle to the last. Both teams arrived early with the anticipation to get their first victory. Theron Johnson was on site on behalf of TSJ Studios to capture the action for the Ct Ravens. The Ravens started off with a short Kick off from James Mezros that resulted in the first turnover of the game picked up by #5 Dave Engle which then ensued a Ravens possession. Rotation was heavy and the defense was relentless causing 5 turnovers one which was caught at the end of the first half by #17 Jamar Rawles. While the game was scoreless for pretty much the whole first half the second half was not as forgiving. The Ravens took a 24- 8 in the second half. The Panthers did not give up and attempted a comeback scoring two more times and attempting to cover an onside kick to heighten their chance of winning. Unfortunately this ended up being one of the highlight moments of the game when Todd Kennedy sent out the hands team for anticipation of the onside. #5 Dave Engle was on the front line and single handedly bolted out the gates for a Touchdown. Amongst other Players that were noted for turn overs were #3 Joe Burns #1 Rob Aries ,#21 John "L Train" Lavigne and #42 Anthony Lucas. Linebackers were in the mix when #52 Ricky Rivera blitzed up the middle forcing a fast hand on the quaterback. Rob Aries #1 deflected the ball and #99 Joe Lineberry was there to secure the interception. The offensive line did not give up a sack the whole game and the defensive line did not allow one rushing 1st down. Both teams came out fired up but only one could leave a victor. As more detailed information (stats) comes about we will edit this post and update it.

Thank you for visiting The Connecticut Raven's Blog official site of the 2010 Connecticut Ravens. We will be constantly undergoing some changes to improve the overall experience of this tournament for the players, fans and family alike. We have added a link for photos and video which will be updated as the season goes on. While the Ravens season is short because we are team that only participates in the Gridiron Elite Tournament every spring we still hope to create more fans and give something back to the players to enjoy! Game 1 Ravens Vs Panthers 32-20

Team work at its best. As the defense line makes way #52 Line Backer Ricky Rivera jumps the Qb forcing a throw which was deflected by #1 OLB Rob Aries and then intercepted by Joe Lineberry.

Another Defensive series that results in an Interception. The interception was made by Ocean State Viper Jon "L Train" Lavigne. A mean stiff arm at the end of the play drags his opponent out of bounds. The interception comes on about the third play.

League fees due February 27th 2010

Team this is just a friendly reminder regarding due date for league participation fees. It is important to spread the word to other teammates and potential players that the $100 league costs are to be turned in full by our final workout at B.A.D on February 27th, 2010. If you have any questions they can be directed by emailing us at ctravensinc@gmail.com or by calling Coach Kennedy directly. It is important the fees are paid as soon as possible in order to avoid possible cancellation of the Ravens participation in the 2010 Gridiron Elite Tourney. The sooner the league dues are sumbitted the sooner we could move forward and not have to worry about finances throughout the season which creates distractions from what we do best and that's play Raven Football!

The many faces of The Ravens!

These are the many faces of the Ct Ravens. John D'alessio kn own as "T-Rex" takes his coaching to the next level from being a positions coach at Warren Harding High school in Bridgeport to the Connecticut Ravens. T-Rex sustained a series injury that side lined him during his season with the Connecticut Bearcats. He intends to bring fire back to the Defense as he did one season ago but this time as a coach. Todd Kennedy also trades posts hoping to bring an offense that will fire on all cylinders and return to Ct as Gridiron Champs. Rookie St.V Padilla comes to the Ravens as a shutdown corner. Very overlooked by his size beware Padilla can dissect an offensive scheme right from the secondary. Linebacker Ricky Rivera returns with the intent to walk away from the spring as a Gridiron Great. Rivera's job will be made much easier with the return of Jeffrey Smith who stands tall at 6'6 and weighs in at an intimidating 275 pounds. Courtney Southerland former player of the Connecticut Giants and (currently)Connecticut Bearcats brings a wealth of knowledge being nominated multiple times for All-star games in multiple leagues, an impactful tackler known as "HD"(High Definition). Rookie Tavon Wilkins only 22 looks to make his debut at defensive end with the Ravens. Mike Galich another returning Defender along with Safety Joe"Ghost"Burns and Defensive End/Line backerRob Arias(not photographed) are more of the arsenal of the Ravens defense returning. Galich is an all around position kind of player pick spot he'll give it a shot.

Ravens Begin Workouts

So what has changed from last year? Everything. If you are here as a visitor new comer or a veteran let me bring you up to speed and/or refresh your memory. The 2009 Ravens brought in new players with hopes to improve upon last year. Essentially that is the goal from every team but the Ravens started off strong playing their first game in terrible weather against the Spartans. I would say at the point the Ravens were reborn. They handed a loss to the New York Spartans which in turn motivated both teams. As the Season Progressed the Ravens made it to the playoffs but lost in the Semi Finals against the Demon Knights . The spartans were in the hunt too. They took the loss against the Ravens personal and sought to meet them again. What you learn in this tourney is you don't always get to play a team twice even if you make it to the playoffs. The New York Spartans went on to take the Crown for Spring 2009. The Ravens owner & Player Todd Kennedy new right away the Ravens would return for 2010 but how would he make changes? Here is the answer: He stepped off the field as a player and stepped on as a coach bringing highly decorated line backer as John D'alessio aka "T-Rex" as a defensive coordinator mix that with some returning players vets and the most anticipated new players to the team and you have the 2010 Connecticut Ravens. The ONLY team that represents Ct in the New York based Tournament.

Team this is just a formal reminder that Practice starts tomorow Feb 6, 2010 at 12pm to 1:30pm. Remember the fee for B.A.D is $5. per session it will be best if you can pay the $20 fee for the four weeks up front so you do not have to worry about being asked for the money or being unable to participate due to finances.
